What the catalogs say

Fewer and fatter cloves than standard Purple Stripe, with mottled rather than striped wrappers. Filaree puts storage slightly longer than either Rocambole or standard Purple Stripe. Boundary notes it needs careful curing in a wet summer. Genetically differentiated in the USDA study, unlike the glazed type. Varieties include Metechi, Bogatyr, Siberian, Khabar.

Catalog spellings vary. Hood River prints Bogytar, Khbar and Kranagasger Red for what appear to be Bogatyr, Khabar and Krasnodar Red. Check against a second supplier before ordering.
